Youth Arts: Wolf Trap

Wolf Trap Program

The Herberger Theater Center’s Wolf Trap program has been revamped to better meet the needs of children in the greater Phoenix area. In response to obstacles like budget constraints, transportation difficulties, and restrictive field trip policies, the Herberger Theater has modified its approach and will bring the program directly to schools, reaching more preschool-aged and Head Start children.

Field trips have been transformed into a mobile program that will visit a minimum of three schools within our community. The traveling initiative provides interactive dance and music activities, enabling children, teachers, and families to experience the enchantment of live performance. The program features a movement class that covers basic dance steps and patterns, fosters creative improvisation, and helps to develop rhythm and musicality. Children will also be introduced to basic dance terminology and participate in activities that enhance both fine and gross motor skills.

The program also includes a ballet performed by professional dancers, based on a story from classical literature and presented with exquisite costumes and music. For schools that can visit the Herberger Theater, the program will be offered in Center Stage, a stunning venue equipped with professional lighting and audio technology to provide an exceptional theatrical experience. By offering the program both at the Herberger Theater and in schools, we aim to reach more children, continuing our commitment to enriching young minds through the performing arts.

"Having a chance to expose students to the arts is a heartwarming memory."
